Fashion has a waste problem. Our industry consistently over-produces, which means that 85% of fashion ends up either in landfills or burned. Since day one at TAMGA, we’ve committed to watching our waste and production, to make sure we’re not part of this problem.

In line with our commitment and love for bold, colourful and feminine TAMGA styles, we are excited to bring you ‘Revival’ - a capsule collection of re-imagined TAMGA styles created from excess fabric and off-cuts from past collections. Revival includes timeless cuts from our Folklore, Wildwood and Freedbird collections that are crafted using our hand-drawn Oralia and Citrine prints. We’ve included a few new styles like the Kamari Boyfriend Shirt in linen, and some accessories such as an ultimate travel duo (and the perfect companion for Plastic Free July) - the Revival Tote Bag and Revival Pouch in our Sage and Savannah prints (with linen lining). We’re also including the sweetest Farm Bandana to dress up your hair-do in our Marigold linen fabric.

Revival is an expression of our belief that creative design and mindful production can help solve fashion’s waste problem. On average, nearly 15% percent of textile waste occurs at the cutting stage, which is why we work closely with our sewing factory to keep and measure our off-cuts. Our team then designs items like the bags and bandanas you’ll find in this collection, using as much of the fabric waste as possible.

In order to keep TAMGA from over-producing, we start every collection with small runs of styles, choosing to keep excess fabric for re-stocks once we know what’s selling. Revival is our newest effort to use every last metre of fabric that we have, creating new and vibrant designs for you to cherish.

Revival is launching July 14th at 9 AM EST - and as always, small-batch production means a very limited amount has been created! So set your alarms and scroll down to explore the beauty of Revival.

Dive into La Costa as we take you behind the scenes to Cadaqués, Spain for our latest campaign. With oceanic-inspired prints, La Costa radiates our love and deep bond with the sea, so shooting the collection seaside was a must! Captured in the remarkable small-fishing village on the Costa Brava of the Mediterranean, this shoot was a highlight for our TAMGA team (especially because it's been 4 years since we were all together!).

With Johanne Landbo as our muse, we wandered the whitewashed streets, clothes and shoes in hand, finding picturesque alleyways and breathtaking views with every corner we turned. We envisioned La Costa to be that perfect European Summer holiday spent strolling down cobblestone streets with a market bag, looking out at the untamed sea from the dock, collecting seashells as souvenirs and jumping on the scooter to catch a glorious sunset. This is La Costa - special moments captured on the coast.

]]>

Last month our TAMGA team travelled to Barcelona, Spain to visit our sweet head-designer Anna in her hometown. Between a TAMGA campaign photoshoot (our newest collection is launching soon!), sight-seeing the coast of Costa Brava and late-night Tapas dinners, we snapped some photos of Anna in her favourite Desert Calling styles - the Haley dress and Myra midi dress. We interviewed her over coffee so scroll down to read the full feature and mini shoot featuring our gorgeous TAMGA babe, Anna.

Anna, tell us a little bit about yourself!

Hi, I'm Anna, I'm from a little city just north of Barcelona. I feel very lucky as I got to grow up by both the sea and the mountains. I studied fashion design in Barcelona, and I have a Master's in fashion from Florence. I grew up surrounded by the fashion industry as my hometown used to be one of the main fabric producers in Spain, and my family had a fashion company. I am the Head Designer at TAMGA designs and I design all the collections and help our print designer Suzi with the prints. I also work closely with our factories to create all the prototypes and supervise production.

Why did you decide to study and pursue a career in fashion?

As I mentioned I was always surrounded by the fashion industry, and as a child, I was very creative! You would always find me drawing, painting or working on an art project. As I grew older, I got to play around with fabrics from my family’s garment factory and learn more about the industry. Becoming a fashion designer was an obvious choice for me - it is the perfect blend of creativity and creation.

How has living and working in Bangladesh influenced your decision to move into the sustainable fashion space?

The main reason I moved to Dhaka was to learn every aspect of the fashion business - from the operation of factories to the machinery required. The more I watched and learned, the more I realized how unethical the fashion industry is. I got tired and frustrated and tried to change things while working for massive brands - my voice never mattered until I met Yana (TAMGA's co-founder). Then and there I knew I had an opportunity to be part of something bigger that can make a positive impact on the industry.

I also moved to Bangladesh a few months before the Rana Plaza collapsed and I was devastated! I had worked in many countries and saw firsthand the horrible conditions factories operate under before this catastrophe. Sadly, it takes something as tragic as this to happen to confirm what I already knew. We all saw the consequences and I knew that I could not keep being part of an industry that doesn't care to protect its workers, their place of work or the environment.

What is your favourite part about being a designer at TAMGA?

That's a tough question - can I say the people I work with!? I love my job so much - it is so different from any of my previous positions where I was constantly stressed about timelines and production prices. At TAMGA, I have more freedom to create styles that mean something, and I love working closely with our factories to make sure the patterns and styles are perfect.

I also love that I can work from home, a coffee shop or anywhere in the world really - the nomad life is part of TAMGA's DNA, and I am so lucky that I get to design wherever life takes me.

What does 'sustainability’ mean to you?

To me, sustainability goes beyond selecting our eco-friendly fabrics and dyes and having responsible production processes. Sustainability is part of everything we do at TAMGA. From developing styles that have minimal off-cuts, to creating accessories that are zero-waste and measuring the environmental impact of every TAMGA garment produced.

On a personal level, sustainability also means that every decision I make will have an impact on the planet - so it's important to be conscious of our everyday choices and be mindful of our planet.

How do you design for different body types and sizes?

Each time I begin a fashion sketch I try to envision all the different ways a style can aesthetically appear on different body types. I keep in mind how we can include elasticized bands and smocks to make it more fit-friendly, and how to create a flattering silhouette that's not uncomfortably tight or too loose. To ensure a perfect fit, we create 'samples' in our styles in 2 sizes - a Small and a Large/Extra Large. Once we have these samples we will try them on different body types and revise them so that the fit is perfect across all sizes! it's a lot of trial and error but this step is super important.

How do you want women to feel when wearing the clothes, you design?

Free, confident, beautiful, comfortable and themselves. Whenever a woman gets dressed in the morning in her TAMGA piece, I want her to have a beaming smile as she sees herself in the mirror 😊 .

]]>

Fashion Revolution has always been an important time for our team at TAMGA. We started the brand following the Rana Plaza factory collapse in Bangladesh, inspired to take action by the same frustration that brought FashRev to life. No piece of clothing is more important than the people who create it.

Over the years, as we’ve grown as a business and had the pleasure of working with many different partners, we’ve learned a thing or two about the industry.

First thing’s first, transparency is key. As a brand or consumer, you can’t know the impact of your clothing until you know where it’s been. Clothing supply chains can get complicated, but that shouldn't prevent anyone from asking questions. From raw materials to yarn, weaving, dyeing, finishing, sewing and packaging, every brand should know which businesses are involved, and where.

Second, it’s not all doom and gloom, there are good actors in the fashion industry. When choosing suppliers we have to do a lot of research, from wages to social insurance to water treatment facilities. Thanks to certifications such as Bluesign, industry groups like ZDHC, organizations like the Clean Clothes Campaign and companies like Lenzing and Huntsman, more brands and suppliers are able to take steps towards social and environmental sustainability. If we know our supply chains, we can direct our business to the good guys and away from the bad actors (the same rule applies for consumers – it matters where we spend our dollars).

Third, there’s always room for improvement. We’ve changed our packaging multiple times, from a ‘bio-plastic’ that (it turns out) doesn’t biodegrade, to cassava-based bags that are great (but fall apart in colder temperatures), to a reusable organic certified cotton bag. We’ve worked with sewing factories that are spotlessly clean at first glance but have quality problems, and ones that might look a little rustic but are cornerstones of their community and heroes for their staff and families (our current partners). We’re always learning and improving, which is exactly where we want to be.

For 365 days of the year we work hard to proudly share who made your clothes and Fashion Revolution Week is an opportunity for everyone to ask the important question of 'who made my clothes?'.

To see exactly how your TAMGA treasures have been crafted , get to know our makers and join the fashion revolution

]]>

We’re a bit picky with our fabrics at TAMGA. In fact, since we started the brand in 2016 we’ve worked with only 4 fabrics! Each fabric has been 100% one fibre, never blended.

Why so picky? After all, most fabrics have that little bit of elastane, polyester or cotton in them. Try finding a 100% TENCEL™ t-shirt for example - aside from ours, it’s not that easy. We decided early on at TAMGA that we would only work with fabrics that are fully traceable, renewable and biodegradable. If we add in 5% elastane with our TENCEL™, we can forget about two of those criteria (elastane, also known as spandex, is made from oil and won’t biodegrade).

Our curiosity, however, kept us searching for new fibres with a different feel and drape. For years now we’ve been talking to suppliers in Europe and Asia about one magical plant in particular: flax. There’s a region that hugs the Atlantic coasts of Belgium, France and the Netherlands where this plant is grown with zero irrigation or pesticides, then processed into Linen fibre using traditional techniques. It’s the natural home of Linen.

While flax thrives naturally in this area, it’s also grown in other countries where conditions and/or standards are not as ideal. Take flax out of its natural environment, and you begin seeing shortcuts being taken – either to adjust the soil (fertilizers), ward off pests (pesticides), speed the processing (chemical retting), or irrigate due to insufficient rainfall.

The key takeaway is that linen from Northwestern Europe requires fewer inputs than elsewhere, giving it a much lower chemical and water footprint, and resulting in the highest quality fibre. If we were to get linen of this standard elsewhere (like China), it would need to be certified organic – and since less than 1% of linen in the world is certified organic, it can be tricky to find.

Ultimately we settled on certified European Flax Linen, a fibre that’s traceable back to the farmer and grown in Northwestern Europe. It’s a high-quality fibre that guarantees proper treatment of soil, water resources and farmers. We especially love that the entire flax plant is put to use – stalk, fibres and seeds all have a purpose.

But as you may know, our work isn’t done until we can convert a sustainable fibre into a fabric that we actually want to wear. Linen is a notoriously “crinkly” fabric that wrinkles easily and can be a little rough on the skin. Our wonderful fabric mill in Indonesia was able to source the European Flax from France and blend it with TENCEL™, creating a fibre that strikes an incredible balance between structure and fluidity without compromising on sustainability. We like to think of it as a blend between old-world and new – natural and traditional Linen with a new-age, closed-loop fibre.

We’re so excited to introduce our newest fabric to the world, knowing that we’ve taken our time to get it right. Not only does it tick our ‘traceable – renewable – biodegradable’ boxes, but it’s also incredible to work with and has allowed our team to incorporate design elements that aren’t possible with our other fabrics. ]]>
Another year, another 365 opportunities to achieve your goals and resolutions for 2022! This year, we encourage you to set sustainable fashion resolutions and join us in taking small steps towards a brighter future! Not sure where to start? We've put together a few goals and intentions to get you easily started in creating a more meaningful connection with your wardrobe.
1. Shop secondhand, shop sustainable / ethical
Pre-loved garments have so much more life in them than you might think! Visit thrift stores, consignment shops or apps such as Depop and Poshmark to find practically new pieces. If you can't find what you need second-hand, shop exclusively from ethical and sustainable brands. Re-think your wardrobe and invest in pieces you can wear 100+ times (at least)! By supporting small, ethical and sustainable brands you are voting with your dollars for an industry that's kinder to people and the planet. Check out GoodOnYou for a comprehensive directory of brands and their impact on people and the planet.

2. Wear what you already own
We all have that back of the closet section where once loved pieces have been tucked away for months if not years! Start by pulling out every single garment you own and re-organize your closet to clearly see what you have. With a fresh-looking closet, it will feel like you are shopping it for the very first time! Make sure to get creative with styling what you already own - after all, using what we have is the most sustainable act of all.

3. Understand the 'true cost' of fashion
Let's be honest, the fashion industry is complicated and most of the time not transparent with consumers - but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't ask questions! Take the time to research brands, reach out and ask them tough questions, watch documentaries and read books about the impact of fashion on our planet and follow sustainable fashion advocates and eco-activists on social media. Knowledge is power and once we start understanding, we can take steps together to change the industry.

4. Buy less, choose well, make it last
A timeless quote by Vivian Westwood we swear by! Take the time to consider what you need, how it was made, who made it and whether you will wear it for years to come. Rather than being influenced by current trends, choose to buy clothing from brands that are ethical, high-quality and whose values align with yours. Extend the life of your garments by following washing and drying instructions correctly (consider using an eco-friendly detergent) and mend/repair if you can (or bring it to a local tailor/seamstress).
5. Join or support grassroots organizations
There are so many incredible organizations that are fighting for more ethical, transparent, sustainable and inclusive fashion industry. Joining and supporting their efforts is free of charge (although donations are often welcomed) and will amplify your voice for change. Check out Fashion Revolution, Remake, Canopy and Fashion Takes Action (Canadian).

https://funerariaasenciopr.com/blogs/tamga-blog/mindful-gifting-guide 2021-12-21T13:05:18-05:00 2022-09-06T14:47:34-04:00 A Mindful Gifting Guide Yana Dales More

]]>
With Christmas just a few short days away, we wanted to share our top 4 tips to gift mindfully this holiday season. What exactly is mindful gifting you might be wondering? Well, to gift mindfully is to shop with your values at the forefront, and to seek out eco, handmade, ethical and/or sustainable gifts. The holidays are a great opportunity to gift with a purpose and tell a story behind the gift (rather than buying something random for the sake of giving a gift). You don't have to be an eco expert or sustainability activist to gift with a purpose, just follow the tips below and help spread mindful holiday cheer.
1. Take the time to research
Thinking ahead makes a world of a difference when it comes to finding the perfect mindful gift. Once you figure out what type of product to gift, take the time to find a maker or brand who makes it responsibly. With so much 'greenwashing' on the internet, taking the time to research, ask questions and understand the impact of your purchase will have you finding the perfect mindful gift.

2. Set your intentions
The intention behind the gift is just as important as the way it was crafted. By taking the time to share the story behind the present you're not only making it a much more meaningful experience for the receiver, but you are sharing your world views and how it reflects through the purchase. This is also a great opportunity for your friends, colleagues and family to be introduced to new brands and makers who share your values. Gifts that 'give-back' to environmental, social or local organizations are a wonderful way of sharing a story (did you know that at TAMGA we donate 1% of all our sales to the Sumatran Orangutan Society)!

3. Quality over quantity
Investing in high-quality gifts means that they will be cherished and looked after for years to come. By choosing quality over quantity (for example buying 1 well-made garment crafted ethically using natural fibres versus 5 fast-fashion garments for the same price) you are voting with your dollars for a future that has fewer disposable products in it. High-quality doesn't mean exclusively luxury - take the time to research and find that well-made gift that's within your price range!

4. Mindful Packaging
The gift-giving experience doesn't stop at purchasing the present, how you'll be presenting it is just as important! With endless eco-friendly wrapping inspiration on Pinterest, there's no reason why mindfulness can't extend to packaging. From using old newspapers, kraft paper, scrap fabric and reusable tote bags, reducing our environmental footprint during the holidays has never been easier!

Happy holidays!

Our newest sustainable collection Folklore is a mid-summer dream captured in the beautiful small town of Marysville, Ontario. When envisioning the campaign for this range, we imagined what a perfect day spent at a county-home oasis would look like. Doing things like enjoying an outdoor picnic, going for a stroll on the dock, playing the guitar, reading a book under a shaded tree, and swimming in the running river - we wanted Folklore to capture all our favourite summertime things to do!

We shot the collection at an idealic historic Mill turned vacation rental near Prince Edward County. The owners and our hosts Suzie and Gerry went above and beyond to help us bring the campaign to life as safely and comfortably as possible given the realities COVID. With an incredible crew on a very hot and sunny day, we created magic and made another TAMGA campaign happen! Scroll down for the #BTS video, snaps, and check out the full campaign shoot here

]]>

Our most recent collection Mystic Island is a homage to the great Canadian wilderness and the stunning landscape of our homeland. Planning this shoot during a global pandemic was no easy feat, but it also brought us (TAMGA co-founders Eric and Yana) back to our roots - no big crews or fancy equipment, just the two of us and an incredibly beautiful location. It's undoubtedly our favourite shoot to date!

Shooting TAMGA campaigns can be a bit tricky in the winter months given the weather, and with the COVID travel restrictions, we've had to keep all out photoshoots local for the last year. March is still a pretty snowy and cold in Toronto where we are based, so for Mystic Island we decided to get on a domestic flight to the west coast where the temps are mild and the environment is lush and green.

We arrived to Mayne Island where we would spend 3 days staying in a gorgeous eco-friendly cob home we found on AirBnB. The
unique cob house is situated on an organic farm looking out over cows, sheep, and acres of fields and forest, and was constructed by the owners Shanti and Don themselves using straw and clay from the farm! The space is rustic, whimsical and truly captures the vision for Mystic Island. With a wood-fired stove in the living room, an outdoor shower, skylight windows through a green roof and and antique furniture, the cob house is something out of a fairy-tale book. This years marks 8 years since the tragic Rana Plaza garment factory collapse in Dhaka, Bangladesh. On April 24th, 2013, 1,138 men and women lost their lives and thousands more were injured, making it one of the largest garment industry disasters in history.

As a result, Fashion Revolution was born - a not-for-profit global movement focused on the need for greater transparency in the fashion supply chain. Fashion Revolution hits close to home for us at TAMGA. Our co- founders Eric and Yana arrived to Dhaka shortly after the tragedy, and over 2.5 years of living in Bangladesh they saw first-hand the realities of fashion manufacturing and the awful impact it can have on people and the planet.

We started TAMGA because we believe in a brighter future. One where transparency, sustainability and ethical supply chains are the norm. And it all starts with a single question - 'Who Made My Clothes?'.

Who Makes Your TAMGA Garments

In the early days of building our supply chain, we spent a lot of time seeking out partners and manufacturers who shared our values and vision for a better fashion industry. It took many months of cold-calling, flying all over South East Asia, showing up on the doorsteps of factories and fabric mills, but we got there eventually! Our supply chain is made up of incredible partners who manufacture ethically and responsibly and share every step of the process with us (which we get to share with you!). There's a lot more to a garment than just the sewing, so we make a point of breaking down the whole story - from the raw material of our sustainable fabrics, to the finished, packaged and tagged TAMGA garment that arrives at your door step.

TAMGA Supply ChainTAMGA Supply Chain

Every partner that we work with signs a code of coduct we've developed based on ILO conventions and our experience working on garment industry improvement projects in Bangladesh. Our team also visits our sewing factory, fabric mills and print mills in person, ensuring that the code of conduct is understood and honoured, and working with the makers on our designs. From wages, to health insurance and workplace safety, full transparency is a must for us and has helped us build great business relationships with our suppliers over time.

What You Can Do After Fashion Revolution Week

Luckily Fashion Revolution is a global movement that goes beyone one week in April! For 365 days a year we can all do our part in being informed consumers and demanding that brands to do better by their makers. Beyond asking #whomademyclothes, it's also important to ask brands 'Who harvested the fibres?', 'Who spun them into fabric?', 'Who dyed the fabric?' and so on. There are many steps in manufacturing a single garment (up to 100 people directly touch any piece of clothing you buy) and asking these tough questions will hopefully encourage brands to dig deeper into their supply chain. Check out this Ethical Fashion Shopper's Checklist if you're looking for some guidance!

Beyond supporting transparent and ethical brands year-round, it's also important to keep wearing, mending and loving the clothes you already own! After all, wearing the garment that is already in your closet is the most sustainable thing we can all do.

Together, we as consumers and brands have all the power in improving the fashion industry (even if our contribution sometimes feels small)! Little choices can add up to make a big difference over time, so let's use our voices and dollars to vote for a brighter future.

]]>

The pandemic has been a major wake-up call for all of us, sparking a cultural shift towards sustainability and appreciation for our planet. After months of staying inside, you likely noticed more people than ever strolling leisurely around your neighbourhood and enjoying the outdoors.

When stores closed, businesses began to rely on e-commerce and we suddenly found ourselves with enough time to think about our purchases, supporting the companies that we value most. Global carbon emissions were down 17% after lockdowns in April (compared to the average in 2019), proving to the pessimists that change is possible when we adjust our collective behaviour.

In the corporate environment, we have seen an increased focus on sustainability in the media and in major companies, particularly in the fashion industry. Major brands such as H&M and Burberry have rushed to hop on the sustainability bandwagon, releasing their own conscious clothing lines. But perhaps what we need is not only a change in products themselves, but a fundamental shift in the way we produce and consume clothing. This is where 'The Circular Fashion Model' comes in.

According to Common Objective, “A circular fashion industry is one in which waste and pollution are designed out, products and materials are kept in use for as long as possible, including through reusing and recycling, and where natural systems are regenerated.”

Essentially, circular fashion requires thinking about clothing as a permanent resource, rather than something you throw away after a season or two. The goal is to avoid waste altogether and ensure that your clothes enjoy a second, third and fourth life. Remember how excited you were to get your older sibling or cousin’s hand-me-downs as a child? The goal is to continue this mindset well into adulthood. Will you keep an item forever? Will you pass it on to your kids someday?

Like most large scale problems, transitioning to a circular fashion economy requires partnership and collaboration between producers and consumers.

Living Zero Waste – Tagged "repair" – Wastenot
Within the fashion industry, circular fashion means:

1. Cutting down on material use

On average, the fashion industry 13% of fabric goes to waste at the cut and sew stage of garment production (stat by Green Story). At TAMGA, we aim to get this number as low as possible. For example, in our Azul collection, we were able to get down to 5.8% wastage at the cut and sew stage, approximately half of the industry average.

Other companies have turned to new technologies such as 3D printing to minimize fabric waste. This way, individual garment patterns are fitted like puzzle pieces to minimize waste, then cut with a laser and sewn together. Danish brand Son of a Tailor recently completed a Kickstarter campaign for their 3D merino wool pullovers for men, garnering 400 orders in the first 24 hours and reaching their fundraising target in less than an hour. The new pullovers are made using a 3D-knitting machine, meaning they are constructed in one whole piece, rather than creating waste at each step of the process. This reduces the amount of cut-off waste from 20% to less than 1%.

2. Removing non-recyclable and polluting materials from the supply chain

The fashion industry uses around 93 billion cubic meters (21 trillion gallons) of water annually, enough to fill 37 million Olympic swimming pools, according to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. Along with finishing, dyeing is the most polluting and energy-intensive process involved in making our clothes.
During quarantine, you may have treated yourself to a trendy tie-dye sweat suit to match your favourite celeb. But have you ever thought about what will happen in a couple of months when bright flashy colours are no longer in style?

When producing these fabrics, the cheapest way for factories to get rid of unusable, chemical-laden wastewater is to dump it into nearby rivers and lakes.
As you can imagine, these toxic dyes end up killing aquatic plants and animals. Beyond the environmental damage, these chemicals can work their way into the food supply chain, one recent study found that textile dyes were present in vegetables and fruit grown in garment producing areas of Bangladesh, after crops were irrigated with chemical-laden water.

It's no secret that at TAMGA we love colour - but we refuse to include harmful dyes or chemicals in our designs. This is why we joined the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Roadmap to Zero program. The program is essentially a set of safety and environmental standards to follow in the textile industry. TAMGA’s woven fabric mill is proud to have received the ZDHC wastewater verification in 2020.

TAMGA Dyes

Our vivid colours come from low-impact dyes that use 70% less water than conventional synthetic dyes. Our bluesign® - approved colours are free of any harmful chemicals and react beautifully to our sustainable and ethically sourced fabrics.

3. Recapturing garments off-cuts for reuse

Repurposing fabric scraps is a simple but effective way to reduce waste.

At TAMGA, we use fabric scraps (off-cuts) to create smaller products like scrunchies and jewelry bags. This way, you get a colorful hair tie and the fabric is spared from landfill (win-win!)

Moving forward, We are planning to use off-cuts to create waistbands, collars and accents on our garments. We are also developing partnerships in Indonesia to make use of even the smallest fabric scraps (think pillow and toy stuffing). Our goal is to get our cutting and sewing process to zero waste.

4. Ensuring use and reuse through repairs and collection programs

Companies like Patagonia and Blundstone offer lifetime repairs to ensure that products will last. Startups such as the Amsterdam based Renewal take discarded apparel and textiles and turn them into renewed products, upcycled materials or recycling feedstock.

While we’re not sure exactly what it will look like just yet, we have plans to incorporate circularity into our business model in the near future.

What can you do to align yourself with the Circular Fashion Model?

1. Shop for quality over quantity
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, buying less is the most sustainable way to shop! Investing in a few quality garments each year is much more sustainable (and stylish!) than succumbing to the never-ending cycle of fast fashion.

2. Take care of your clothes (longevity)
The best way to make a garment last is to treat it well. The good news is that when you invest in clothes that you love, treating them well is second nature. You’ll be more apt to follow the washing instructions to a T and mend your favourite items when they need some attention. Pro tip: find a skilled tailor/seamstress who will make your favourite items last forever!

3. Resell your clothes
If you have an item you’ve fallen out of love with, the most sustainable thing to do is pass it on to someone new. One great way to do this is through resale. According to a recent Thredup report, the secondhand apparel market is valued at about €28 billion today and is forecasted to reach €64 billion in the next five years! Luckily, sites like Depop, Kijiji, Poshmark, Thredup and Facebook Marketplace have made it incredibly easy to cash in on the booming resale market, parting with old clothes and making some money doing it!

Online Fashion Re-sell

4. Host a (virtual) clothing swap
Running out of things to talk about on your weekly Zoom calls with your friends? Why not go through your closets and swap! This is a super fun, easy and cost-free way to refresh your wardrobe. Have your friends select their favourite items and mail them out to each other for a fun-filled Friday night activity.

5. Educate yourself on the impact of fashion on the planet & share!

Do you ever feel guilty about the amount of plastic in your waste bin at the end of the week? Here's how we take control of our packaging waste.

More

]]>

Do you ever feel guilty about the amount of plastic in your waste bin at the end of the week? Are you frustrated when you order a book on Amazon and it comes in a plastic-filled box big enough to fit a television? While many of us try our best to live sustainably, there is inevitably some waste created from our busy lives.

Unfortunately, most packaging is created for single-use and is typically thrown away rather than reused or recycled. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, packaging materials make up almost half of all garbage or 2.5 pounds per person per day.

The Challenge: Creating a Sustainable Alternative

When we set out to design sustainable packaging, these were our goals:

1. Plastic-free & biodegradable
2. Re-usable before disposable
3. Always learning and improving
We based our goals on a tool known as the 'Zero Waste Hierarchy'. Essentially, the top of the pyramid shows the least wasteful option and the bottom is the “unacceptable option”. The goal is to land in the higher levels of the pyramid and avoid the red zone at the bottom.

     Zero Waste Hierarchy

    1. The Evolution of a Garment Bag

In 2016, TAMGA’s garment bags were made with 'bio-plastic', sounds cool and sustainable, right? Bioplastics are made from renewable biomass sources, such as vegetable fats and oils, corn starch, straw, woodchips, sawdust, and recycled food waste. However, the problem with these plastics is that they only biodegrade under very specific conditions. If this material is littered or left in the wild, it can stick around for 80 years!

In 2017, we moved to garment bags made from Cassava Starch in Indonesia, a fully compostable material. Cassava is a staple food crop, relied upon as a main source of energy by nearly 10% of the global population. Cassava bags proved problematic both from a sustainability and a practicality standpoint. Firstly, the harsh Canadian winter caused the bags to crack. And far worse, yields of Cassava have been stagnant for decades, so the growing industry is taking away from feeding hungry people.

    TAMGA Packaging

In typical 2020 fashion, we have decided to take our bags in a new direction. We’ve moved on from our Cassava bags and taking the next step towards our goal of re-usability with the launch of our Provence collection. Each order is shipped in a beautiful, reusable GOTS certified organic cotton bag. These can be used at the grocery store (also saves plastic!), as a purse or gym bag, or even to pack your shoes for your next post-pandemic vacation.

    2. Recycled Tags & Thank You Cards

Our commitment to eco-packaging does not stop at garment bags. TAMGA’s tags and thank you cards go a step beyond recyclable, they actually promote women’s empowerment! Saraswati is an incredible social enterprise that employs local women to produce hand-made paper from 100% post-consumer paper collected from around Bali. Used paper is collected from hotels, schools and businesses on the island, it is then shredded and turned into paste, and lastly, pressed by hand and dried outdoor by Bali's sunshine. Saraswati makes the paper hang tags on every TAMGA garment.

    Saraswati Tags

    The Next Chapter: Compostable Mailers

Currently, TAMGA sources our mailers from an New Zealand based eco-packaging company called Better Packaging Co. Their compostable mailers are made from a combination of corn starch, PLA (a bio-based, biodegradable material made from renewable plant materials), and PBAT. While PBAT is partially petroleum-based, it actually enables the rest of the (plant) materials to compost. Read more here.

These mailers are certified by the leading authorities worldwide, ensuring that the product breaks down within 90 days in commercial compost and 180 days in domestic compost conditions. After degradation, they leave no harmful residues behind.

Our next goal? Reusable mailers. Single-use mailers shouldn’t be necessary in a world where we’re getting visits from the post-person daily. If you're reading this and know of a company providing a reusable mailer service, please let us know!

The Next Chapter: The Future of TAMGA's Packaging

TAMGA’S ultimate goal is full re-usability. In 2021 we will be providing options for re-selling used TAMGA garments. We will be focusing on making our tape and labels more eco-friendly.

By 2025, we plan to reclaim and recycle garments into new fibres and other products when they’re finished their useful life. This goal has a longer timeline because the technology behind cellulosic fabric recycling is still being developed (with some very hopeful signs!)

While we’re proud of our journey towards eco-friendly packaging, our current solution is by no means perfect. We always have our ears to the ground for new innovations and technologies that could lead to less waste. There is no “one size fits all” solution for sustainable packaging, but with tools like the zero-waste hierarchy and constant innovation in the industry, we’re excited to see where we can take TAMGA in the future!

The end of 2020 is around the corner and what a rollercoaster of a year it's been for all of us! We launched the TAMGA Eco Calendar back in January and we had no idea that shortly after, the world would change and our Mother Earth would need us more than ever to tread lightly and make changes in our everyday. This will be the final Eco Calendar we release, and if you've been loving using this tool you can re-print all the monthly calendars and keep up with your eco goals, weeks and lessons! We hope you've enjoyed using these free print-outs, and we wish you a very happy and safe holiday season!

First time printing out the calendar? Scroll down to read how to use it.

    HOW TO USE THE CALENDAR

Each monthly calendar is designed by us with a gorgeous illustration hand-drawn by our head designer Anna. To start, print out your calendar (in colour if possible!) each month and hang it somewhere on a wall as a daily reminder. You can also keep the calendar on your desk, in your notebook, or somewhere where you will often see it. The calendar has the dates of each month and a section for you to note any significant dates to remember (such as birthdays, trips, holidays, etc.).

There are also 3 sections to set your eco goals for the month and keep track. In your 'Eco Goals' section, note 3-5 goals that you would like to achieve in the beginning of each month. These can range from 'bringing my travel mug every time I order take-out coffee', to 'organize a fundraiser for an environmental cause'. No goal is too big or too small to set - the important thing is to start somewhere and learn from your progress each month.

Your 'Eco Wins' section is meant to highlight your successes and the steps you've taken to be more mindful this month. This can include things such as getting a compost bin at home, riding your bike to work or reducing your weekly meat intake. This section is meant to be referred to throughout the month as you take small steps to walk lighter on our planet.

Your 'Eco Lessons' are the noteworthy things you learned this month. Whether its a new sustainability podcast or book, understanding the impact of fast-fashion or figuring out where to buy local and in-season produce - this section is a key part of your eco-journey. You can also use this section at the end of the month to reflect on how you did with the eco goals you've set for yourself.

Although the sections are only a few lines, you can use the backside of the print-out to add more information or use a separate sheet of paper.

Each month also includes an inspirational quote and a unique #TAMGAtip we think you'll love!

The TAMGA Eco Calendar is designed to help you in taking small steps towards a brighter future - and we are so excited to be part of it! Make sure to tag us on social (@TAMGAdesigns) as you put your calendar to use and share this post with a friend, colleague or family member to inspire them to do the same :)

    More

    ]]>

Black Friday is notorious for manic crowds and buying things we don’t actually need. Last year’s Black Friday saw €729 billion in sales in the U.S. alone, a 4% increase from 2018! This year, the TAMGA team invites you to approach Black Friday a little bit differently.

    Introducing: Forest Friendly Friday

From November 27th-30th you’ll receive up to 30% off select TAMGA styles, and 20% of the proceeds will be donated to the Sumatran Orangutan Society (S.O.S) in your name

Why do we call this day 'Forest-Friendly'? The Rainforests in Indonesia, where we produce TAMGA garments, are being devastated by global demand for palm oil and wood pulp. Some of this wood pulp is actually used to make Viscose fabrics, making fashion a prime culprit in destroying these forests. We source our fabrics sustainably, but we want to go one step further to actually help heal the damage that’s been done.

S.O.S. is an organization that protects endangered species and their forest habitat. This forest is the last place on earth where critically endangered species such as Sumatran Orangutans, Tigers, Elephants and Rhinos co-exist in the wild, and it’s disappearing at an alarming rate.

To date, the Sumatran Orangutan Society has planted 1,910,153 trees in the Leuser Ecosystem and has trained over 18,000 locals to support conservation-friendly livelihoods.

On average, every order on Forest-Friendy Friday will lead to 4 trees planted - but the impact doesn’t stop here. This money includes 5 years of training locals to look after the trees, weed them, and make organic compost to feed them. It also includes regular monitoring of the reforestation site for the return of wildlife, measuring rainfall and temperature, and building cabins for workers to live in while they protect the reforestation site. To put it simply - our focus is not just on putting trees in the ground, but making sure they stay there and thrive! Click here to hear first when Forest-Friendly Friday launches.

3 Ways to Make Sustainable Choices this Black Friday

    1. Building back better: Reclaiming the Power

You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who has not been directly or indirectly impacted by COVID-19 this year. Plans have been put on indefinite pause, jobs lost, and many loved ones are seen only through a screen. All of us have had to make some significant changes in the past year. For instance, 40% of Canadians are now working from home compared to only 10% in 2018.

One silver lining of the pandemic is a chance to reflect on the kind of habits we want to keep and the kind of people we want to be. You may have decided to value sustainability this year, and Black Friday is a chance to put those values to the test.

So, how will you contribute to shaping a better world post-pandemic? A great starting point for this is realizing the power that you have as a consumer.

“The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don't have any.”
    - Alice walker

As small businesses struggle to stay afloat during these trying months, the value of our dollars has become more clear than ever. By voting with our wallets, we can decide which companies will be around next year and beyond! If you want to see a future where sustainable and ethical businesses can survive and thrive, now is the time to support them.

    2. Shopping for Quality: What are your clothes made out of?

Not all fabrics are created equal.

Did you know common fabrics like viscose and rayon are derived from wood? Each year, more than 150 million trees are logged to be turned into fibres. If you were to stack those trees end to end, they would circle the earth seven times! Even worse, the chemically intensive process of dissolving the pulp to manufacture these textiles wastes approximately 70% of the tree.

So how can you avoid harmful fabrics this Black Friday?

When shopping for new clothing check the product page or tag and look for organic, recycled or sustainably sourced materials. Instead of ‘Viscose’ or ‘Rayon’ fabrics, choose ‘TENCEL’, ‘EcoVero’ or ‘Lenzing Modal’ - fibres that are sourced from renewable and sustainably managed forests. Instead of Cotton, go for organic cotton - which uses 91% less water than traditional cotton and avoids the use of toxic pesticides and chemicals.

The materials you choose to wear can have a major impact on the planet. Even a simple T-shirt purchase can make a huge difference in your personal environmental footprint, as well as ensure a fair wage is paid to the individual who made it.

As you start to stock up on clothes made from high-quality fabrics, you will find that they hold up better in the wash and still look great several years down the line. This will save you dollars, save the environment from mountains of fashion waste, and give you a whole new connection to your favourite clothes.

    3. Support Frontline Environmental Workers

During a global pandemic, it can be easy to forget about the incredible frontline environmental workers who are devoting their lives to protecting our planet.

For many non-profits like S.O.S, events and year-end fundraisers have been cancelled or moved online. As a result, donations have tapered off, leaving them unable to pay their staff and perform the critical work that they do for our environment.

For S.O.S, their partners on the ground are in dire need of donations. The Indonesian National Parks, once a major source of revenue, has shut down to protect people and orangutans from COVID-19.

These closures have left hundreds of families without an income and unable to perform their jobs. To put things in perspective, a day’s worth of supplies for one family in Indonesia costs €2.40, and a month’s worth would cost only €72. If you’re interested in donating directly, you can do so here.

In supporting these frontline environmental workers, you’re helping to ensure that these organizations and their local conservation champions will be around for the long haul. Nonprofits like S.O.S are essential to building a greener world post-pandemic. If you are able to, investing in our environment by supporting S.O.S. (or purchasing a Trees Please Tee) is one of the most meaningful actions we can take right now.

Let us know in the comments below how you are prioritizing the planet this Black Forest-Friendly Friday!

Our newest 'Leading Ladies' feature is a special one! You may have noticed that we recently launched an exclusive collaboration style with the non-profit organization 'Dressember', and 'Jane the Virgin' star Yael Grobglas. The TAMGA x Dressember dress gives back 20% from every dress sold to Dressember's work of ending global human trafficking. This cause is close to our hearts and we are so excited to feature Dressember's CEO Blythe as a TAMGA's Leading Lady. Scroll below and get to know Blythe as she chats with us about Dressember, motherhood, and coping with the challenges that 2020 has brought with COVID-19.

Blythe, tell us a little bit about yourself!

I currently live in the Seattle area with my husband Jordan, our 16 month old son Behr, and our whippet mix, Friday. We recently moved to the area from Los Angeles (my husband just started a grad program in painting at UW), and we actually rent a little house about a mile from my childhood home (I moved to SoCal in high school). I'm enjoying rediscovering the area, as it's changed a lot in the years since I lived here! At the same time, there's a lovely feeling of familiarity, and it's been interesting to have long dormant memories surface through familiar smells, bugs, plants, etc.

What does a typical day working at Dressember look like for you?

It depends on the time of year! Right now we are in campaign season, so I spend my time developing resources for our advocates, promoting Dressember on outlets to reach new potential supporters, and hopping on zoom or IG Live to share interviews with our partners to our greater community.

The work you have done with Dressember is very impressive, can you talk to us about the reason you connected wearing a dress to fighting human trafficking?

I started wearing a dress every day in December of 2009, without any fundraising or campaign element attached to it - it was purely for fun, and honestly, it wasn't something I planned to do annually. In 2010, some of my friends wanted me to do it again so that they could join in. In 2011, some of my friends' friends wanted to join in, and at that point - when people I didn't know personally wanted to join in - I realized there might be potential for this silly style challenge to be something more. In 2013, I aligned Dressember the style challenge with an issue I'd been passionate about for years, and wondered whether we could raise a few thousand dollars, or whether it'd totally flop. We ended up raising over six times my goal, €165,000 EUR, and at that point I realized it was a much better idea than I'd imagined. So, it wasn't that I chose to start a dress-wearing campaign with anti-trafficking, but it is interesting to have conversations with people about what dresses symbolize to them, and how that can be leveraged (or in some cases, reclaimed as a previously oppressive symbol) in this fight for the dignity of women around the world.

What is the most rewarding/milestone experience you've have had while being CEO of Dressember?

There have been a lot of incredible milestones - raising a cumulative €1MM EUR, then raising that much in a single campaign, then a cumulative €10MM EUR, giving a TED talk, working with some celebrities I've admired -but honestly what means more to me than those milestones are the opportunities I've had to see the impact of our work first hand in Bulgaria, India, Nepal, Guatemala, and other places. Meeting with the staff working on the ground to support these individuals encourages and reinvigorates me in this journey, and meeting survivors -seeing their strength, their joy, and hearing of the transformation and restoration this work affords them - is the highest honor of all.

Being the founder of an organization can be tough - especially mixed in with a global pandemic! Can you speak to some of the challenges Dressember has faced during the pandemic and how you have navigated these difficult times?

Like most companies, we've adjusted to an entirely remote working environment, and I've grown accustomed to seeing my team exclusively through a screen. We've of course had to adjust our event strategy and the ways we encourage our advocates to share Dressember has shifted to be entirely virtual strategies. We've also increased our virtual connection points - hosting zoom happy hours, webinars, IG Lives, etc.

How has COVID-19 effected the space of human trafficking and have you seen a rise in cases?

All the ways our team has adapted have been mild inconveniences compared to the impact of COVID-19 on survivors of trafficking and those at risk of trafficking. Traffickers prey on vulnerable people, and this crisis has made already vulnerable communities exceptionally vulnerable. The National Human Trafficking Hotline shared with us that there was a dramatic surge in calls at the onset of COVID - the number of calls from intersecting businesses (hotels/motels, airports, truck stops, etc) more than doubled, the number of calls about crisis trafficking situations increased by 40%, the number of requests for emergency shelter due to trafficking situations nearly doubled, and there was a 70% increase in likely sex trafficking situations involving porn and remote, online interactive sex acts. And these numbers only reflect the reported cases - it's the tip of the iceberg when you consider the host of individuals who aren't in the position to report (as is often the case with exploited children, immigrants, or those under control of their traffickers through threats, abuse, or other means). Additionally, with people spending so much time online, both the demand for online sex services and a trafficker's access to children online have increased. It's a critical time to monitor your child's use of social media, who they interact with, and explain internet safety to them.

What would you say to someone who wants to help or get involved in the fight against human trafficking?

It can be so overwhelming when you first learn about this issue-- it's a thriving criminal enterprise that preys on the world's most vulnerable people. Before you reroute your life and career, consider the possibility that you might be able to have a significant impact right where you are. We often downplay our own influence and network, but the truth is that you have a unique amount of relational influence with the people you're close to, work with, related to. Dressember is the single best on-ramp to engagement in this cause. We give even the busiest person an easy, fun way to engage in the fight, start conversations, spread awareness and reliable data, and be part of a community of people across the world raising money to dismantle this industry from every angle. Through participation in Dressember, you'll meet others passionate about this issue, discover key players and organizations, learn innovative strategies based on new data, and find your voice and path as an advocate. Visit www.dressember.org/fundraise or dressember.ca/fundraise for our Canadian advocates!

You’ve recently had a baby boy, congratulations! How do you navigate motherhood while working such a demanding job which covers highly sensitive topics?

Thank you! Motherhood has been the hardest, best, most meaningful thing I've ever undertaken. I'm grateful to have a partner who is truly equal, and has carried the bulk of childcare duties for the past year+. Now that my husband has started school, he still leads care with Behr half of the day, and we've found outside care for him the other half of the day. I'm learning the art of flexibility - learning to roll with each moment, each interruption, with grace and presence, and then being able to quickly transition back to whatever I was focused on. I think COVID is teaching all of us to be interruptable, but especially those of us with kids at home. The truth of my situation, though, is that I hold a tremendous amount of privilege. I have an equal partner who supports my work, and my work provides enough for our family to live on. Additionally, I've worked with my board of directors to create a company with female-centered policies and benefits. We offer paid maternity leave, PT transition time for women returning to work after leave, and a dependent care FSA that allows employees to set aside money from their paycheck pre-tax that will go toward any dependents they might have, young or old. I recognize that for far too many women, work flexibility, familial support, and paid maternity leave are simply not their experience. In the United States, these are still, shockingly, luxuries only available to those in privilege, while many others face extreme hardship in their absence.

You have been open in discussing mental health issues on your Instagram - what made you feel the calling to express your own experience about mental health in the public eye?

I consider myself, generally, a relatively private person; however, there are a couple of issues I feel compelled to speak openly about - my experience of sexual abuse as a child, and my ongoing relationship with my mental health and depression. I started sharing my sexual abuse story to explain why I'm passionate about ending the mass sexual exploitation of women and girls, and that showed me that so many others have similar experiences to mine and carry their abuse with oppressive shame. Hearing someone else speak openly about their own abuse allows others who've experienced abuse to release some of the guilt, shame, and sense of responsibility they've carried -I've seen it time and time again. Through speaking about my abuse, I've seen what happens in our own lives and in the lives of those listening when we shine a light on shame - it loses its power over us. For this reason, I became emboldened to share about my mental health journey and my long road with dysthymia - chronic, low-grade depression. In the same way as with sexual abuse, I knew many people suffer in silence, ashamed at their lack of control over their mental health. I wanted (and continue to want) to be part of reducing the stigma of mental health, and the power it can have over our lives. I want people to know that even people who seem to "have it all together" - people we might even envy for their jobs, platforms, or accomplishments - struggle with mental health. I hope my vulnerability helps anyone who feels especially alone, or wonders if their life is worthwhile - the truth is every life matters and you can channel your pain in ways that help others.

You just moved to Seattle, what was it like moving during such a crazy time? How has the moved changed your day to day operations at Dressember?

It was honestly a good time for a big adventure! We had been sheltering at home for about 3 months and so it made the upheaval of it all a bit less daunting. Since the Dressember team had already been working remotely and independently for 3 months, it also made the transition to working remotely, two states away from my team, a bit easier for me. So, in a lot of ways, my day to day doesn't look any different now than it would have had I not left LA.

What are some of your favourite ways to spend time when you’re not working?

Like most people right now, I spend most of my time at home, baking, reading (currently: The Girl You Left Behind and A Path Appears), crafting (I'm on a paint by number kick) or, of course, playing with my son Behr. I'm also using our relocation as a chance to discover Seattle-based efforts to curtail human trafficking, and acquainting myself with a lot of great people and organizations working up here.

I am sure it can become easy to get bogged down by all the work there is to do around human trafficking, what are some of the self-care methods you practice to keep your energy positive and productive?

First and foremost: therapy. Therapy is the ultimate self-care. I recommend it to everyone. Additionally, good food, a hot bath, and a daily run (even though I hate running) are good practices for maintaining good mental health.

TAMGA recently partnered up with Dressember on an exclusive dress collaboration, how will the donations from the the sale of each dress be used to further the fight against human trafficking?

A portion of every dress sale will go toward Dressember's work internationally to intervene on behalf of victims of trafficking, provide comprehensive aftercare for survivors, and prevent individuals and communities most at-risk from falling prey to trafficking. Every year, our impact grows, and we are able to continue weaving together a net to protect and restore more people as a result. Thank you for being part of this impact!

Thank you Blythe for the opportunity to be interviewed and partner alongside Dressember to release the limited edition TAMGA x Dressember dress. Be sure to check back soon and meet TAMGA's next leading lady.

November is here and it's hard to believe that 2020 is almost over! We are kicking off the month celebrating the launch of our newest collection 'Provence' (click here to check it out) and working on a few more exciting projects for TAMGA this year! As we head into the chillier month of the year here in Australia, we'll be layering up in our favourite Provence pieces and doing our best to be as mindful and eco-conscious this month (and next). The TAMGA eco calendar will be wrapping up next month so now more than ever is your chance to be making small changes for a better and more sustainable future. It's never to late to try the TAMGA eco calendar and set sustainability goals for yourself!

This has been a strange year. While the whole world is battling a pandemic that just won’t go away, we’ve had no shortage of other serious and challenging problems come up. Wildfires have been devastating, racial injustices continue to pull at the seams of our societies, and the climate crisis looms heavy over our future.

It’s ok to feel overwhelmed. Take a moment. Take however long you need. Then remember: we can do something about this. Today, Friday September 25th, is the Global Climate Strike – a chance to reset our personal environmental goals, learn what steps governments are taking, and speak up about the future we want.

The Climate Strike started with a 15-year-old girl (you may have heard of her), Greta Thunberg, who protested in front of the Swedish parliament in 2018. The following March, more than 1 million took part in strikes across 125 countries worldwide. The following September, many more millions in 150 countries. And that is exactly why we should never doubt that one person can make a difference.

This year’s climate strike will look a little different due to the pandemic, but there’s no doubt that it’s more important than ever. Human-generated greenhouse gas emissions are leading to an accelerated warming of our planet, in fact, the last five years (2015-2019) have been the five hottest ever recorded. In the face of these accelerated changes it’s been surprisingly difficult to unite public opinion and government action around the science, even while 97% of actively publishing climate scientists are in agreement. Also, some of the countries most at risk from the early effects of a changing climate do not have the resources to adequately respond, and are responsible for a tiny fraction of global emissions relative to the richest countries.

Here are the key demands for this year’s climate strike, and some of the ways that you can be part of a solution.

    Credit: FridaysforFuture.org

    1. Join the digital strike:

Take to the digital world and post about your involvement with the global climate strike. Think about your goals and try to go deeper than just a posting on social media. Engage a local politician or business leader about an environmental issue, local or global, that matters to you. Don’t settle for the easy stuff like blame and finger-pointing – go deeper and suggest potential solutions (conversations are better than arguments!).

2: Write a letter to your MP

A well written letter to your member of parliament can go a long way. Use this letter to highlight the main changes you would like to see when it comes to the climate crisis. When writing this letter ensure that you have done your research: know the facts about their position and their parties’ position on climate change. Informed and fact-based letters will send a better message and show how serious you are about demanding change from your local or federal government.

Better yet why not encourage your friends to send in letters as well! Here is a great template to use if you don’t know where to begin.

3: Support a business or non-profit that’s doing the hard work

There are plenty of NGOs and businesses that are working on hard problems around sustainable economic growth, transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy, restoring ecosystems and more. Whether you’re donating to support their work, purchasing a sustainable product, or just writing them a supportive email – this will be a significant and meaningful action.

    4: Educate yourself

Climate change is a complex problem, anyone who thinks they have simple answers (get rid of greedy fossil fuel executives!) hasn’t done their homework. Our global economy, food supply chains, waste management systems, legal frameworks, etc. make up a complex and interwoven system that has been carbon-intensive for decades. Read up on these issues, give yourself the gift of patience and curiosity to think through how different aspects of our daily lives and society can be more sustainable.

    5: Reconnect with nature

Remind yourself why our wonderful planet is worth saving! Finding balance with the environment starts on an individual level (physically, mentally and emotionally). Fresh air, healthy ecosystems and clean waterways are magic – soak them in, you’ll more than likely come home more inspired than ever.
